Ok, here goes, my first entry. I was a little hesitant to do this; really, one puts themselves out there when posting. Being somewhat of a private type I really had to think about this. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. I can always pass as time goes on.
After completing my 3rd Ironman it's obvious my swim is my weakness. Talk about an Achilles Heal. Year one it was great. you get out of the water and start passing. It is highly motivating. But after doing this for a few years it really gets to be hard work. On the left, on the left .... This year I resolve to improve on this.
Lets look at some realities. As triathletes we run long, we bike long, often spending 3 to 5 hours in a single session. Then we do 1 or 2 sessions in the pool. That just doesn't cut it. Time in the water is as important as time on the road. Especially over the winter. Why not take advantage of the liquid as opposed to the crystal form we plow through all winter.
Recently I had a session with our local Masters coach Jason Cawkwell. He did some underwater filming and basically my legs are low and I am dragging them through the water. I have to get horizontal to reduce resistance. Also I straight arm my pull. And .... lets start from scratch and take it from there.
I have tried a few sessions with the group and I feel like an Octopus flailing away. The advantage is an Octopus can propel themselves through the water. This is extremely frustrating, but I'm determined to get this down. I just keep saying to myself , do it right, learn, eventually you will pass the rest of people in this lane. Anyway, enough, will keep you posted.
Have a Great Day everyone!!!!
